AUSG President Taylor Dumpson sent the following email to the student body of American University on Wednesday, May 3 to announce a town hall meeting for Thursday, May 4, 2017.

Good Evening Members of the AU Community:

As Student Government President, I have received numerous text messages, emails, direct messages, and phone calls from concerned members of the greater D.C. Metropolitan area, and from across the nation.

The common question was “how can I be of assistance to the AU community,” as a result of the hate crime that occurred on our campus directly targeting Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Lambda Zeta Chapter.

On Thursday, May 4th, 2017 at 2pm in the Mary Graydon Center Rooms 2-5, there will be an “AUSG President’s Town Hall Meeting,” and I have been directing interested parties to attend this event. The forum will begin with an introduction, explaining the purpose of the event, and what we hope to accomplish as a result of the meeting.

I will be the moderator for the event, and will be asking members of the community-at-large to provide feedback on what specifically the follow-up protocol should be for bias-related incidents in the future, as well as coming up with realistic and tangible action items.

I would like members from our extended community, to provide feedback as needed, but their attendance is geared towards showing support for the members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Lambda Zeta Chapter, black students and other students of color, and the AU community as a whole.

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please feel free to contact me at president@ausg.org.

Thank you in advance for all of your support.

Taylor Dumpson
