On Sunday, AUSG President Taylor Dumpson joined dozens of student leaders from across the country to support the students of the University of Virginia as their campus and their community move forward from racist demonstrations and a heartbreaking act of terror.

Student leaders from Washington, DC to California signed on to a letter released Sunday condemning the violence that the nation witnessed in Charlottesville yesterday. The statement also stated support for the students of the University of Virginia as their campus deals with the symptoms of systemic racism.

"Students should always feel welcome and safe at our incredible higher education institutions, never having to fear for their personal well-being," the letter says in part. "As the voice of our students, we collectively call on one another to speak up in the face of injustice, as silence reduces us to bystanders in oppression."
