The Student Government executive board issued the following statement at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 26, 2018 following SG President Taylor Dumpson's resignation.
Last night, the executive board of the American University Student Government was informed by Taylor Dumpson, the President of SG, that she intended to resign effective today, Friday, January 26.
“We support Taylor’s decision to step down, and we thank her for her service to the student body over the past nine months. Our top priority as the executive board at this time of unexpected transition is to continue to work for the student body as we have throughout our terms,” read a joint statement by SG Vice President Solomon Self, Comptroller Christine Machovec and Secretary Kris Schneider.
In accordance with the Student Government Constitution, Comptroller Christine Machovec will assume the SG Presidency effective at 11 a.m. today on an interim basis. Additionally, Machovec has delegated her responsibilities as SG Comptroller temporarily to SG Secretary Kris Schneider.
The Student Government Constitution mandates that a special election take place within 30 days of a vacancy of the SG Presidency. The executive board will refer this situation to the Elections Commissioner, who will immediately undertake the planning of a special election. The executive board expects it to take place by late February.
