The Breaking ground monologues is an oppurtunity for students at American University to share the complicated relationships people have with their bodies. These pieces seek to expand upon the Vagina Monologues whose content essentializes woman, excluding the lived experiences of different identities. Our aim this year was to invite students at AU to write about their understanding of their body, localizing their experiences, and speaking from personal realities. Pieces touch upon gender, sexuality, race, religion, weight, trauma, love, acceptance, and the ever changing understanding of "the body".
