Positions Available

Chief of Staff

The Chief of Staff will serve as the Vice President's Chief of Staff, as well as helping with the overseeing of the programming board, and class and school councils. The Chief of Staff will be in charge of helping to coordinate special projects and initiatives from the Vice President where student groups and university administration will come together on collaborating to provide the best student experience. In addition, the Chief of Staff will collaborate with campus partners and/or student organizations on and off campus in order to focus on issues including, but not limited to, mental health, sexual assault prevention, diversity and intersectionality, and accessibility assistance on campus. The position entails working closely with the Vice President, student organizations, and university administrators. The Chief of Staff reports directly to the Vice President.

Time commitment: 10-15 hours/week

Director of the Kennedy Political Union

The Kennedy Political Union (KPU) is the non-partisan, student run speaker’s bureau on campus. This person will oversee the daily operations of KPU. The director has their own staff, which they is responsible for choosing. The position entails working closely with the Vice President as well as university administrators. The Kennedy Political Union Director reports directly to the Vice President.

Time commitment: 15-20 hours/week

Director of the Women's Initiative

Women’s Initiative (WI) is a non-partisan, student-run organization that helps coordinate and advise campus departments and committees on programming and policy decisions that affect marginalized students, faculty, and staff of American University. WI is responsible for creating and delivering responsive, effective and educational programming to address a wide range of issues through the lens of gender and sexuality. WI programming reflects core values of anti-violence, anti-racism, environmental & climate justice, queer & trans inclusion, and wellness. WI is committed to working in collaboration with other student organizations, academic departments, student services, and off-campus organizations to further this mission. WI is committed to progression, inclusivity, and responding to the programming needs of the American University community. Moving forward, the goal of WI is to exceed these expectations through cross-collaboration. WI serves as a safe space and resource for grassroots activism and coalition-building. The position of Director entails working closely with the Vice President as well as university administrators. The Director of Women’s Initiative reports directly to the Vice President.

Time commitment: 15-20 hours/week

Director of the Student Union Board

Student Union Board (SUB) is the student-run concert and entertainment bureau on campus. This person oversees the operations of SUB. The director has his or her own staff, which he or she is responsible for choosing. The position entails working closely with the Vice President as well as university administrators. The SUB Director reports directly to the Vice President.

Time commitment: 15-20 hours/week

Director of Founders Week

Founder's Week is the annual celebration of American University's founding, and this culminates with Founder's Day. This event is attended by more than 1,000 AU students. The Director of Founder's Week is in charge of planning Founder's Week and Founder's Day. The director has their own Deputy Director of Founder's Week, which they are responsible for choosing. The position entails working closely with the Vice President as well as university administrators. The Director of Founder's Week reports directly to the Vice President.
