Student Government, Student Media Board, Club Council, the Residence Hall Association, and the Graduate Leadership Council are excited to announce that the 2019 Founders Day Ball will be held at the National Air and Space Museum Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, Virginia on Saturday, February 23, 2019!
The 2019 Founders Day Ball will be held on Saturday, February 23, 2019 from 7-11 p.m. at the National Air and Space Museum Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, Virginia. This year’s celebration commemorates 126 years since American University’s founding.
This year’s celebration is proud to be sponsored by the American University Student Government, the Residence Hall Association, the Graduate Leadership Council, Student Media Board, and the American University Club Council.
This year, we will welcome 2,500 guests to the venue. Complimentary refreshments and hors d’oeuvres will be served.
The Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year and features stunning exhibits such as the Space Shuttle Discovery, the Concorde, and the Lockheed Martin SR-71 Blackbird. The venue features hundreds of air and spacecraft exhibits in a hangar-like space.
Tickets for undergraduate students are free. Ticketing will begin on Monday, January 28. Each class will be given a specific code to secure a ticket. A waitlist will then open for those who did not receive tickets and still wish to attend the ball. More information on ticketing times and codes will be dispersed to the community through email.
Buses will provide complimentary roundtrip transportation for students, and is the recommended means to attend the event. There is also a Lyft code that will be provided to students if they so choose to pursue that mode of travel. There is also free parking at the venue. More information will be provided via emails to the AU community and postings on the American University Student Government Facebook and Twitter accounts.
As always, the Founders Day Ball is a 100% alcohol-free event in accordance with American University rules and regulations, and to ensure the safety of students as we are guests at an offsite venue.
In the spirit of the evening, we will launch our third annual Clawed’s Wearhouse store in the MGC Corner Lounge. The “store” is open to all students to pick out FREE formalwear and accessories for the evening and beyond. Donations are still being accepted at the MGC Information Desk.
To continue the celebrations, Founders Week will be held Saturday, February 16 to Tuesday, February 26, 2019. The full list of events during the week will be announced soon.
